Wire Mesh Enclosure

Purpose

To prefabricate materials for wire enclosures to protect small cedar trees from being destroyed by browsing deer.

Enclosure Description

3 ft high with a 15 ± inch diameter wire mesh enclosures with a wire mesh crowns.

 

Fabrication Requirements

  1. Cut the enclosure material 48 inches long from roll.
  2. Make the cuts for the enclosure material at the MIDPOINT of the hexagon in the wire mesh. It is more important to make the cut precisely at this point than to be exactly at the 48-inch mark.
  3. Lay the 36" x 48" enclosure material as flat as possible into sets of ten. Place five with natural the curve upwards and 5 with the natural curve going downwards.
  4. Cut crowns from near the end of the rolls where possible. Crowns should be 14 inches wide by 18 inches long (half the width of the 36-inch wire roll).
